Velvet Labrador Retriever Saves Mt Hood Hikers

Three stranded Mt. Hood hikers survived a night of 70 – 110 mph winds and life-threatening cold temperatures thanks to Velvet the Labrador Retriever who accompanied them on their ill-fated outing on Sunday, February 18. While the hikers huddled together under a tarp, Velvet stretched herself across her three companions, keeping them warm and alive according to Canadian news outlet, CTV.CA. Even though the group had a locator unit with them, search teams were hampered by whiteout conditions. Without Velvet’s warmth, the group probably would not have survived the night.
